The School of Foreign Languages provides English preparatory education to undergraduate and graduate students admitted to Izmir Institute of Technology. The instruction language being English at our institute increases the significance of Foreign Language Education and signifies a challenging preparatory period for students studying at our school.

The School of Foreign Languages, with the awareness of its important mission in addition to its main function of foreign language education, continuously conducts research and development activities to improve the quality of education. With a modern service approach, it has completed its administrative and academic structure to achieve these goals.

The language of instruction at Izmir Institute of Technology is English. All students who will continue their education in undergraduate and graduate programs are required to have academic proficiency in the English language.

To meet this need, the Foreign Languages Department was established in the academic year 1996-1997. It operated as a unit under the Rectorate until 2010 and then transitioned to the status of a School.

The School of Foreign Languages includes the Basic English and Modern Languages Departments. It provides academic-level English education to undergraduate and graduate students through its administrative staff, consisting of a Director, two Assistant Directors, a Preparatory School General Coordinator, and a School Secretary, as well as teaching staff. The administrative and academic staff at our School undergo continuous in-service training to ensure they have a contemporary vision for improving the quality of service delivery.
